The Marina Vallarta Golf Club is a Joe Finger 18-hole golf course uniquely situated near the Puerto Vallarta marina. The 6,700-yard par-71 course sits in a breathtaking location with the Pacific coast and Banderas Bay on each side. Equally distracting vistas include lakes, lagoons and ponds scattered in the area. The place is very exotic and those who have played here advise newbies to not look too deep for a lost ball. Ducks, sand cranes, 4-foot iguanas, white herons, and crocodiles seen around the Marina Vallarta Golf Club lend credence to this wise advice.
Finger has designed a lot of opportunities in Marina Vallarta Golf Club for the enterprising player, but these opportunities are by no means easy plays. Joe Finger's unique brand of golf demands precision playing as evidenced in the 600-yard, par-5 10th, a long stretch of a birdie hole. The green is only about eight paces deep, but is so long you can't take it in two shots. This makes a wedge necessary to turn the birdie into a valid goal.
The 11th hole, a par-4, at the Marina Vallarta Golf Club is not terribly long at 376 yards, but one that requires controlled and strategic playing because of the water obstacles. The 200-yard shot over water is a challenge that is apt to take your ball for a swim. Close to the 12th, iguanas will be watching you go into the course's signature 13th, a 210-yard par-3 parallel to the coastline. If you are an ocean buff, the salty ocean breeze will work with scenic views of the regal Sierra Madre Mountains and spectacular Banderas bay to put you off your game especially with waves playfully crashing against red rocks four feet from the green.
The finishing 418-yard 18th hole is no laughing matter either as it will force you to plan your shot under overhanging tree and a fountain to land successfully on the course green. It's quite difficult for the finishing hole made more so by the distracting views so beautiful you will probably not mind losing a few balls to it.
Amenities at the Marina Vallarta Golf Club include a fully stocked pro shop, a restaurant lounge, putting green, driving range and a spectacular hacienda-style clubhouse. The Marina Vallarta Golf Club hosts the International Pro AM tournament every year and is a sister facility to Vista Vallarta Golf Club, also in Puerto Vallarta, host to the EMC World Cup- 2002 World Golf Championships.
