Poor 10-year-old Lucas Nickle (voiced by Zach Tyler Eisen) can't get a break. Recently moved to a new city with his family, he hasn't made a single friend. He gets nothing but grief from his teenage sister Tiffany (voiced by Allison Mack) and not a whole lot of attention lately from his parents (voiced by Cheri Oteri and Larry Miller), who are busy planning their big anniversary weekend trip to Puerto Vallarta. This gate works great! My son can pull up on it and even hang from it and it never gives way (he is 25lbs). It is noisy but this is not really an issue for us. At first it was really hard to use but after a few days I could manage one handed in the dark! My declawed cats also seem to be able to climb over somehow which is good, as they would tip other less sturdy gates over.

Hate it! Hard to install, hard to use, noisy - A. Wise - New York
First of all this is not a cheap gate. In addition to the price I had to buy a wall instillation kit and a banister installation kit. It took my husband and father-in-law more than an hour to install this properly. They are both very competent people.

I am using this not only to guard my child from falls, but to keep our top floor separate and keep the cat out of the bedroom. It is very noisy. It makes a loud clicking noise when you open it and it reels the mesh gate onto the roll. This wakes my baby even though his door is closed and he is sleeping with a white noise machine. It is that loud.

It is impossible to operate one handed. The handle is high so you may get the top part hooked on but not the bottom part. At that point you have stopped pulling so the gate has locked in position. You have to unhook it, use the unlocking mechanism and try again. And the banister side hooks wiggle around(no matter how much we tighten the screws) so it is hard to get it hooked on.

This was very expensive and we are so unhappy with it. But we are unlikely to return it due to the time and effort it took to install, not to mention the rather sizable holes it would leave in my freshly painted walls.

I would not recommend this to a friend.

There are many diseases that vaccination will protect your baby from contracting, a history of these diseases have shown the severity of these diseases. Vaccinations were made to stop childhood diseases that once killed children in our not so distant past.

The following are vaccinations that are typically given and the timeline in which they are administered.

Hepatitis B - A vaccine to protect against hepatitis B.

Administered: Given between 2 and 4 months and again at 12 months.

Inactivated Poliovirus - Is a serious disease called Polio.

Administered: Three does at 2 months, 4 months, between 6 and 9 months and another at 4 years of age.

Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - Baby first vaccines will include this triple shot to protect against the following diseases;

· Measles - An infection caused by a type of virus called a paramyxovirus.

· Mumps - A viral infection that is very contagious infection and spreads easily between people.

· Rubella (German Measles) - A highly contagious viral infection, spread through contact with discharges from the nose and throat of an infected person.

Administered: The first dose is given between 15 and 18 months and a second is given between 4 and 6 years of age.

Varicella - Is the medical name for chickenpox.

Administered: Between the ages of 15 and 18 months and then a second does between 4 and 6 years of age.

Influenza - Simply means the Flu.

Administered: the doctor determines this since age recommendations have been changed.

Baby's first vaccines can be painful, mainly for the parents who are watching; the discomfort that baby feels is minimal and is over quickly. Having your child vaccinated is a personal choice, even though it is highly recommended to control disease, it is ultimately up to the parent. However, most school districts will not allow children to attend their school without a record of updated vaccinations. This is to protect children from the contagious diseases that children are known to carry.

Soccer Layouts - Playing Field Dimensions

Basketball has its court and soccer has its own field. Every game has its own place where it is to be played. Depending on the setting, soccer layouts or playing field for that matter varies in sizes or dimensions.

Here a certain field types and its specifications will be talked about. Three of the most common field types will be tackled here one by one.

International Matches Field
Obviously, this kind of field is the widest. This is where international matches as the name suggests were being played. The size of this field may range from 110 to 120 yards in length and between 70 to 80 yards in width.

Standard Matches Field
There is no exact required field dimension here as long as it does not go below 100 to 130 yards in length and its width does not go below 50 to 100 yards.

AYSO or Beginner Field
This bracket consists of very young players. That is why this field type needs to be proportionately small also. There is no specific size for this field as long as it is proportioned the similar way.

All the field types consists of the very same thing namely, the touch lines which serves as the lengthwise boundary of the field, goal lines which were shorter and marks the field edges. After marking the exact center of the field, a 10 yard circle is made around it. Another line cutting the field that can be found 18 yards away from each goal post towards the center of the field as in the case of an international match field is called a penalty area. This can be readily identifiable because it forms a big rectangle on each side of the field. Another line cutting across the field center is called a halfway line. Each goal post must be painted white. The line that can be seen inside the penalty area and the goal post is called the goal box. The field is not complete without the flagpost on every corner of the field and a quarter-circle towards the field that is drawn 1 yard away from every flagpost.

Specifications for all the playing field types may vary but the field size don't really matter as long as it is complete with all its required soccer layouts.

The Benefits of Outdoor Play

We know sitting in front of video games and TV. are not health beneficial. Being out doors helps our children to become creative. It is also known that children sleep better when they have played outdoors. My own children spent hours outdoors. They came in filthy, ninety percent of the time. They were so exhausted they would fall asleep in their bath. I did not mind the dirt on them nor did my wife, it meant to us that our children had a great time.

The benefits of outdoor play can be found physically and mentally. Physically we know the benefits strength endurance and builds coordination. Physical activity: mats, balls, riding toys, etc. Playing outside is a valuable activity for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. In many ways it promotes their development. Babies, toddlers and preschoolers are sensory-motor learners. Besides all the health benefits, playing outside stretches children's thinking and knowledge. Children need coordination, they need a chance to practice their basic physical skills. Outdoor play time also allows children to move freely and make noise, forms of self-expression that are often restricted indoors.

Too often these days we are afraid to allow our children to play outside. There are so many dangers waiting around every corner. Make play groups, get a bunch of kids together and start games with them. Just be close by to make sure no injuries occur. I know as a working parent it is very hard to make sure your kids get out side daily. If neighbors could come together and each take one day a week to encourage the children in your neighborhood to play together. Each parent taking turns on the different days of the week, before long you will have very busy kids, not to mention free time for the separate parents, whose turn it is not.

Having kids go out and pick different leaves up to put in wax paper is a great way to get them outside and walking around. The children adore little art projects such as this. There are many benefits to outdoor play. It also gives our children a sense of adventure if they live near woods, always making sure they never enter extremely wooded areas alone.

Children with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). This study examined the relationship between children's nature exposure through leisure activities and their intentional functioning using both within and between-subjects comparisons. Parents were surveyed regarding their child's intentional functioning after activities in several settings. Results indicate that children function better than usual after activities in green settings and that the "greener" a child's play area, the less severe his or her attention deficit symptoms. Thus, contact with nature may support intentional functioning in a population of children who desperately need intentional support. Besides all this, playing outdoors reduces stress in kids. Children express and work out emotional aspects of every day experiences through unstructured play. Children allowed to play freely with peers learn skills for seeing things through another persons perspective, cooperating, sharing, and solving problems.

Children learn from motion. As adults we know that we learn through doing, it is the same for children. Developing perceptual abilities might suffer, when so many of their experiences are through media computers books and homework. The sense of smell touch and taste are wonderful ways to learn.

Children who are more free to spend time out doors, gain courage in moving through the larger world. They should gain the ability to navigate their immediate surroundings, in safety, thus laying the foundation for the competence to eventually lead their own lives.

The world we live in today is increasingly complex, and a little scary. The fact remains our children need as much as we did, the freedom to feel the wind on their cheek. The kiss of the sun, and engaging in self-paced play. Ignoring the developmental functions of unstructured outdoor play denies children the opportunity to expand their imaginations beyond the constraints of the classroom.

Dangerous gate extender - Dr. Duane - Gainesville, FL
The gate extender is dangerous and if a child pushes or pulls on it, it seperates from the "stairway special" model RSS-30 that it is designed to lengthen. The nuts pull out of the frame of the stairway special causing failure. The design is that the extension has holes that the bolts are placed through and they are anchored into the nuts within the frame of the main gate (stairway special). A child could die pushing on the gate. See image I posted on Amazon site of failed gate.

Worst Gate Ive owned - Chyrl Duggan - Amarillo, Texas
This has to be, by far, the worst, most dangerous gate for a child I've owned.
First off all, if you have uneven walls this won't work for you. Mine look even but apparently are not. There is no way to custom adjust this to uneven surface. I had to rig it with a sponge and one of those rubber jar openers wrapped around it to create a non-slip surface. (wondering why I didn't take it back? This and a crappy wooden one were my choices at the store because my old one broke when one of my daughters fell through it late at night so Walmart was my option for a new one. I have to keep my kitchen blocked off at all times because my nearly 2 year old will get into it in the middle of the night)

My nearly 2 year old son has figure out how to push it over due to the fact you cannot customize the fit.

Second its honeycombed designed plastic makes great climbing opening for little feet/toes and the adjustment part that slides leaves and opening big enough for a child's foot to wedge in there while trying to climb the gate. My son has done both and hurt himself.

Needless to say this gate is gone and replaced with one that has vertical metal bars with no areas he can use for a boost up or getting his toes/feet caught while trying to climb over it.

I would imagine this gate might be ok if you had a pet or a child that isn't walking and completely even doorway walls. Otherwise, I deem this gate a dangerous piece of junk that needs some extreme re-designing to ever be used as an infant/baby gate for a walking toddler.

The gate installs as it is supposed to, but the locking feature is not - in my opinion - well designed. The handle sprung itself loose once or twice, or, when in fully locked mode, was very difficult to open. To fully lock, you have to push part of the handle behind a tab, which is not easy. To unlock, you will definitely need two hands and some patience. I tried to post this review with no stars, but the system won't allow it. That's the only reason it has any stars at all.

This gate has ruined my wall, you have to fight with it for 20 minutes to even get it up, and then it still wont stay. its not safe at all!

My wife and I took a short getaway trip this week (our spring vacation) and we took our 18-month-old baby along. We stayed in a small cabin with three very small rooms. We brought along our BabyBjorn Travel Crib to provide sleeping quarters for the little one and we set it up in the kitchen where we could close the little dear off from the rest of the cabin.

This BabyBjorn Travel Crib has proven to be quite useful. We've owned it for over a year and have taken it all over the place. We set it up at Grandma's house when we take him over for a little visit. In one instance we checked it in as a bag on an airplane trip and then used it while visiting another couple. We've taken it along on many car trips. The travel crib packs and unpacks easily and fits in a suitcase-like container. The bottom rests directly on the floor and has a soft mattress. The bottom is larger than the top so the interior space is designed to slope inward and have a wide base so the baby cannot tip it over. We appreciate this feature. My wife thinks it's quite stylish and I'd regard it as very practical. We both think it's well designed and much better than other available travel cribs. Ours is the dark-blue model with a black container, but the color really makes no difference. It's a rather expensive accessary but has proven to be one of those items that are worth it. I might add that it's beginning to look rather small relative to the boy and probably won't be useful beyond another year.

The BABYBJORN Travel Crib works very well for napping at Grandma's house. It is comfortable for a 2 year old as well as younger children. It is so much easier to set up than the old pack and play we had been using. When folded into the case it is easy to carry with you. I wish I had made the investment in this travel crib before. I found it at a great price at Amazon and it arrived within days after ordering.

This crib is amazing. If you travel a lot you will not be disappointed. We've taken this on three continents. It weighs 11 pounds, unpacks in about 30 seconds, packs in about 60. It's a little too big to be carry on luggage, but you can check it without fear. Not only is it light and simple, but tough too. It's very sturdy and our daughter loves it. Sure it's a little spendy, but do you really want to lug a 20 lb pack and play around?

Safety Tips For Ride On Toys

There are many places on the internet you can find a ride on toy or pedal car as they are also called to buy. Children love them and can easily spends hours in the garden riding their new toy to their hearts content. Mum and Dad are now even greater than they thought before hand with their new outdoor toy. There are though, several safety aspects to take into consideration with a ride on toy as well as other outdoor toys available for your children.

Even though there are a great range of pedal cars available, they all share the same characteristics and what they function. There are some areas to take into consideration before allowing your children on their new pedal car.

The first is to make sure you are always around when children are playing on their ride on, as it can be very easy for children to fall off, especially if they get over excited or speeding around the garden. It can be very easy for children to want to show off their new toy to brothers, sisters, friends or relatives.

Only one child should be on a ride on toy at the same time so no additional children holding on, standing on the back depending on the model. As well as possible slipping off, the ride on can easily become unstable and tip over.

Do not allow children to push their brother, sister or friend on their ride on toy as it can be very easy for them to slip, fall and knock their mouth or head on the child riding the toy or the toy itself. Pedal cars are as they are called, pedal powered so pushing a child on a ride on can cause the pedals to rotate to fast and catch children's feet in between the pedal arms and the ride on itself.

Do not allow children to ride their toy in areas which could be dangerous such as near a road, other children riding about or where items such as washing lines could entangle a child.

It can be a good idea to lock gates, block paths with dustbins or similar if you need to go indoors and leave the children riding in the garden for a short period of time, although not recommended.

Aside from the points above, ride of toys are a source of fun for many children and a good way to get them outdoors in the fresh air. They also provide good exercise and much more beneficial than sitting in front of the latest games console.

Evenflo Expansion Swing Gate Review

I bought this to replace a North States Super Gate. Finding a wide width gate that works is not so easy. This Evenflo gate works great. We use it to keep our dogs in the kitchen . The North Gates was a real pain in the *** it would often stick when trying to open it, instead of gliding freely . By the time you got it open and were trying to pull it closed the dogs had escaped!! They learned when it was just the right time to make a break for it!!The Evenflo is just plain simple and functional! Since we do not have any small children in our house I used a tie wrap to keep the lever open so we did not have to work the latch when opening/closing. The Evenflo is also less expensive and in my estimation made better.
Installation requires some measuring and screwing it to the surface. I used an electric drill to make piolt holes, installation took me about 20 minutes. You will need a drill, screw driver and a pencil to mark where to drill the pilot holes.
I do not know how well it works with children but I would be willing to bet it does a great job.
Well worth the monry.

I picked this gate to create a multiple option road block for mine and my daycare kids at the intersection of my living room, kitchen, and hallway on my first floor. All of these were wider than normal spaces and I wanted something that could fold up off to the side when not in use. I like it for it's purpose, it works, but it does warp a bit, making it hard to sometimes get into the locks, and the locks are NOT suited for 4 years plus - very easy to get undone... maybe some 2 and 3 year olds could do it, too... Just so you know. :) But ok gate for our purpose. (I'm always around when gate is in use, so I'm there to fend off the bigger kids.)



Great gate for the bottom of Deck Stairs - Divina Sullens - illinois
I purchased this to keep the kids in the yard and off the deck. Our deck is about 3ft high, and our stairs are 4 ft wide. It was very easy to install just 4 eye hooks, and best off all comes off easy so I don't have to leave it outside in the elements!! Although my 3 1/2 year old figured out how to open it before I had it totally installed, it still works great for the littler kids I was worried about on the stairs anyway!!! Great product for the money. We were considering spending the 0 on the aluminum deck version from one step ahead. Glad we found this one instead!
