Poorly designed and dangerous Evenflo Baby Playard - Safety Conscious Parent -
The sidebar locking mechanism that stabilizes the unit for the Evenflo Babysuite Signature Portable Playard does not work. After numerous attempts (somewhere around 25 tries) to get the unit to snap-to, I looked underneath and saw that the cheap plastic locking mechanism was fractured and broken.

My child will not be staying in this bassinet as I was unable to get it to set up. It was a big hassle when I set it up for my first child, but I was finally able to get it to work. Several years later in preparation for child number 2, the unit failed miserably and I gave up on trying to get it to work. Such a frustrating experience when you spend several hundred dollars on a product and it's poorly designed and dangerous.

It's a shame as the unit looks really nice, it's just that the key support structure and locking mechanism unit responsible for supporting the baby and the units 4 legs is made of really cheap plastic and thin metal bars that easily fracture and wear. I will not be using any of their products after this experience.

Out of all of our baby gear, this is one huge disappointment! We bought this primarily because of the very elegant look and that is about all it is good for! When our baby was a newborn, we used the changing area, but even at 7 lbs she was too heavy for the bassinet. It is way too clunky to use as a travel crib now that she is older and it makes the Graco Pack n Plays look like ingenious inventions. The crib doesn't come with a sheet for the mattress pad, so we ordered one. It makes the mattress pad "SNAP" up sometimes, even when our baby is IN the playard! Horrible! Like every other owner, the hood NEVER stayed in place and the vibration for the bassinet is very noisy. This thing is a disaster and I wish we had never bought it! I wouldn't take this playard if they paid me to! Sadly we bought it at its highest price and I kick myself every day over it. Ugh. Run in the other direction!!

My daughter slept in the bassinet part of this play yard until we moved her into her room. This 'mattress' seemed softer than others I had looked at but apparently was not as sturdy and began to sag long before she was 15 pounds (which is the weight limit for the bassinet). I called the company and they replaced it (after the standard time allowed, which was very considerate of them) but the replacement also began to sag: this is when we gave up and moved Baby to her crib. (My sister has the Graco play yard she purchased for her first 5+ years ago and my daughter didn't roll to the middle of that one.) Also the mattress rattled against the battery pack when the vibrator was on. The bassinet part of the play yard holds my only complaints, though!

I have to admit, bought this one purely on looks (ours has a different fabric pattern/color, but the same faux wood). Would not buy again because:

1. Changing table leans to the unsupported side (even with our 8 lb newborn). I assume this will get even worse as the baby gets heavier;

2. Sleep platform severely sags in the middle. We can only position baby in certain places, otherwise his head will end up below his feet;

3. Canopy constantly pops off. The clips are insufficient, and they need to be snapped in after popping off every time we adjust the canopy;

4. Vibration motor rattles against sleep platform. It's loud- had to stuff towels in there to buffer; and

5. Music/sounds are too loud. The lowest setting is disruptive when baby is in light sleep.

Bottom line- looks good, doesn't work so good, overpriced given its shortcomings. Look elsewhere.

Always verify the history of the breeder. Huskies could be very sensitive pets and lots of attention is required. Be patient with them and discipline will come with time. Never leave them alone for a long period of time or destruction will be inevitable. Huskies will destroy furniture and any other items they can get their teeth around. If leaving them home for long periods of time is inevitable I would recommend finding them a companion.

Creating Activity Areas in Landscaping

Certain factors come into play when designing your yard. A well-planned landscape should suit your lifestyle, your family's needs, your site's plot plan, and topography. Of course, there is also personal preference as well as the fact that your landscape should complement the architectural style of your home. In general, it helps if you decide whether you want a landscape design that is formal or informal. Think about your hardscape needs and permanent structures first. Any structures such as greenhouses, tool and storage sheds, garages, etc. require level topography along with easy access for traffic, be it pedestrian, wheelbarrow, lawnmower, or vehicular. Once structural and traffic considerations have been planned, then you can consider where to site your gardening areas and plantings.

The topographical features such as slope, soil, rock, and water features, and drainage need to be assessed. You should note where drainage measures may be necessary as well as areas that will require special irrigation for adequate water. It is also important to note how any modifications you make to your site's topography might affect your abutting neighbors. A small pond added to your site or the redirection of a stream on your own property can affect your neighbor's ground water table. Drainage problems may be resolved with a simple fix or may require expert advice and correction. Site modifications may not be necessary, but may be desired. Adding a raised bed, fence, or berm at a boundary for privacy or noise buffer or installing a koi pond can add interest to your yard. Just be sure not to create unnecessary drainage or irrigation issues as you beautify your lot.

If your lot is sloped, retaining walls, other hardscape features, and plantings can be used to prevent erosion. Ground covers and low-lying shrubs like junipers are usually adequate for gentle slopes and are pleasing to the eye. Steeper slopes benefit from some sort of retaining wall, the material for which should be well-suited to your overall landscaping theme. For less formal landscapes, natural materials such as smooth, rounded stones for a wall or wooden railroad ties blend nicely. Mulching steeper sloped areas and adding permanent or at least low-maintenance plantings is wise, bearing in mind that any part of your yard that has grass for groundcover will need to be mowed.

Traffic patterns, activity areas, general landscape theme, and specifics of garden beds' shapes, placement, and layout need to be functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. Once you plot your activity areas, you're ready to plan your plantings. Color, texture, height, and other creative factors can be considered so your yard can evolve into a place of enjoyment and beauty.

The best sports are those that you can watch at a professional level, and still play at your own level whether it's total beginner or highly advanced. That's one benefit of basketball for just about everyone. High school athletes, adults, kids, families and groups of friends all have the ability to gather on a court, driveway or even the back yard and start tossing a ball around. Naturally, when this happens, some of the best games are invented, and none is more popular than the game of horse.

Of course, just like any other game with house rules, the game of horse seems to be different on every court, school yard and home where it is played. Let's take a look at the (almost) universal basics of this fun game, and some of the unique variations that folks use to put their personal spin on this classic outdoor game.

Classic H-O-R-S-E

The most classic and universal element of the game of horse is that it involves making baskets and being rewarded or punished by receiving a letter of the word. Frankly, those are about the only elements of the game that don't change from version to version. As you'll see below, everything else about this game is subject to the whims of the players.

Other Versions of H-O-R-S-E

One basic method of horse is played by assigning five shooting spots, usually in a semi-circle, around the basket. Each player shoots from spot one, and if they make the shot, gets to add the letter "H" to their personal score. If a player does not make the shot on a letter, then they stay at that position each time their turn comes up until they make a basket. The first player to spell horse by making it all around the course wins, in this version.

Another way to play is by having players line up and come up with a fun way to make a shot. It can be between your legs, backwards, off the shooter's square or any other way. After the first player goes, the rest follow and attempt to make a basket in the same manner. Any player who misses gets a letter added to his or her score. In this instance, anyone who spells horse is out of the game and play continues until only one person, the winner, is left standing.

There are a number of ways that the game can be, and is often, changed even further. In order to accommodate players of different ages and skill levels, the shooting points can be different. Of course, even the name of the game can be changed to something else. Games of P-I-G or H-O-T-D-O-G are not unheard of. Players looking for more of a challenge can play a speed round where multiple balls are used and a timer ensures a faster pace.

At the end of the day, playing horse or any other game designed for the basketball court is about having fun and getting a little more shooting practice. With a bit of creativity, the options are endless.

I purchased the Eddie Bauer sheet after reading discouraging reviews about the sheets made specifically for the Graco Pack n Play. I am thrilled with the fit and quality of this quilted sheet. It is nice and soft, perfect for a newborn, and washes nicely. I have washed it in both cold and warm water and dried it on gentle and have not had any shrinkage. The fit is perfect for the Graco Pack n Play and it gives just a little extra padding for baby. The sheet is not waterproof so I put the American Baby Company Waterproof Large Sheeting Pad under it. I would buy another one in a second!

This is a great cover for the pak n play mattress. It is super soft. It cleans easily and has not shrunk after two washes, along with drying on hot. It adds some cushioning to our used pak n play without being too much to make it unsafe. I just ordered a second one.

No pilling problems so far; I dry it on medium-low.

Play Games at My Wedding Reception?

You can add spice to your wedding reception and have great fun doing it by playing games! Of course, you'll still have that first dance with your new spouse to the tune from when you first met. And, you'll still get to eat from each other's fork when you cut-the-cake.

While the bride may play games at her bridal shower with the other "girls", games are not reserved for showers only. You can use games to encourage conversation among your guests. Games can also help in cases where you want a fully enjoyed reception, yet there are religious or other reasons for limiting your dancing or music.

There are basically three types of games that work at a wedding reception. They are: Games for Everyone, The Joke is on the Bride and/or Groom and Outdoor Games (of course for an outdoor wedding).

Games for Everyone

Pass the Buck - Play musical dollar at each table. Whoever is left holding the $1, wins the centerpiece.

Switch the Shoes - The bride and groom may hold up a shoe or garment belonging to the opposite spouse in answer to a what-if question on how they will act in married life.

On the Spot Art - Each guest is given a paper and pen and asked to draw another random guest. This works best when they don't know beforehand the guest being drawn.

Guess the Truth - Guests are asked multiple choice questions that have been previously asked of the bride and groom. A show of hands will see how many guests are on target.

On the Spot Poetry - Each guest is given a piece of paper and a pen. The paper has the start of a poem like "Sally and Mike met at the fair..." The guests complete the poem.

Games where the Joke is on the Bride and/or Groom

*If you are the bride or groom, let your best man or a bridesmaid read these

Give Back the Keys - (This only works if the bride and groom do not yet share a home) The bride and groom is each given a basket. Announce that "Anyone who still has her house keys must give them back." Lots of guys get up and drop keys in her basket. Only one guy and the groom's aunt return keys to the groom's house.

Guess the Bride - Blindfold the groom and present him with 5 barefooted persons. He must guess which feet belong to the bride. Choose anyone but the bride to be among the 5 persons. In fact, this is really funny if they are all men.

Guess the Groom - Blindfold the bride and ask her to feel 5 men's faces to guess which belongs to the groom. Choose anyone but the groom to be among the 5 persons.

Outdoor Games

What you play will depend on where the wedding is and how the guests are attired. A game like croquet is easy to set up in a park or large backyard and is possible in semi-formal clothing.

If the wedding is very casual, a park with large grassy area may be great for Volleyball or a huge circle of folks passing a Frisbee. And limbo - with the right music - is great almost anywhere, especially for a Caribbean or beach themed reception.
