School Yard Accident Risks

There is no question that kids love recess. Recess gives kids a chance to take a break from school, exercise, and use the pent up energy that has built up from hours of learning inside. For many kids playgrounds are full of adventure, with slides, monkey bars, swings, merry-go-rounds, and more. Unfortunately, children can sometimes be seriously hurt on the playground because of poor supervision or bad equipment.

Playground Equipment Problems

Over the years, playground equipment takes a lot of abuse from children. The designers, manufacturers, and school officials have a responsibility to provide children with safe equipment for playing. If children are hurt from bad equipment, someone may be liable for their injuries. Some common problems are:

  • Poorly designed or improperly installed equipment

  • Defective equipment parts that makes the equipment unstable or otherwise unsafe

  • Worn out equipment that needs to be replaced

  • Rusty equipment that could cut a child and cause infection

Failed Supervision

Children sometimes take risks and can play rough, which can potentially cause injury to themselves or to other kids. Teachers and other supervisors have a responsibility to watch children to make sure playground safety rules are followed. If a child is left unsupervised and engages in unsafe behavior that otherwise could have been prevented, the school may be responsible for any injuries that result.

Because of the heavy equipment involved, accidents that occur on a playground can be especially serious and may result in broken bones, head trauma, spinal injury, or other severe injuries. If your child has been hurt in a playground accident, consider consulting with a personal injury lawyer to determine if a lawsuit is appropriate. A good lawyer will protect your interests and fight to get your child and your family the compensation you deserve.

Kids Love Backyard Play Centers

Although kids love playing outside, very often they can become bored with the basic outdoor activities. To keep the kiddos happy and active outside, you should consider buying an outdoor play center or jungle gym type of activity. We all have memories of swinging in our backyards as kids, and today's kids have a huge selection of play structures to choose from. Shop around and become familiar with what's available and the type of activities that your children will enjoy.

Today, most home improvement stores, toy stores, and department stores have a large selection of play structures. In addition to seeing what is available locally, most store retail locations will have displays setup. These displays can give you an idea as to what the new toy will look like in your backyard, and whether or not it will be appropriate for your child's ability level and the space you have to set up the structure. While it is nice to view the selection of local play centers, you may also want to examine a number of different online retailers. You should get detailed information, including pictures. What is nice about online shopping is that most online retailers have a larger product selection, when compared to most traditional retail stores.

During your comparison, you will come across different products that are referred to as play structures, jungle gyms or play centers. Outdoor play centers are large in size and most come with various different activities in one structure. Popular play structures include activities such as swing sets, playhouses, sandboxes, and tree forts.

Sandboxes are referred to as backyard play structures because they are made of durable materials. Popular sandbox styles include ones that are made with plastic or wood. Because sandboxes come in a wide variety of different sizes, if you have a large yard or a small yard, you should be able to find a sandbox that is perfect for your child.

Tree forts are another popular backyard play structure. Retailers rarely sell the item assembled, but rather the supplies for assembling in your yard. If you are unable to find the supplies for sale or make one yourself, you may want to locate and hire a professional carpenter.

Playhouses, like most other outdoor structures, come in a wide variety of different styles. Many of these styles are great for both boys and girls and very often have swings and other activities.

Swing sets often come equipped with swings, slides, teeter totters, and monkey bars. Metal swing sets are available for a reasonable price. For a more expensive and dependable structure, wood swing sets are also available.

In addition to tree forts, playhouses, swing sets, and sandboxes, there are a number of other outside play structures that are available. Regardless of the type of outdoor play center or structure you provide for your child, they will surely love it and have many years of outdoor fun.

Backyard Croquet

Backyard croquet is a gift that keeps on giving. You can use a croquet set and you can use it again and again and again and again for friend or family entertainment. I recently bought a croquet set and played a game of backyard croquet or poison croquet – another form of backyard croquet – with my family in my backyard. We had a nine-wicket, six player croquet set. Now that we have a set, we can play it as much as we want as a free, fun family outdoor activity. Anyone in the family can also invite their friends over for some cheap outdoor entertainment. They can also take it on dates or other group activities.

For my family it is especially nice to have outdoor games such as croquet to play. Each Friday we have a family barbecue and find ways to entertain ourselves during the barbecue. Outdoor games provide a form of entertainment that we can enjoy many times over for an affordable price. We also have other outdoor games like ping pong, frizbee, Kubb, and more. We just had to buy one croquet set [http://www.playcroquet.com/croquet_sets.php] and now we can use it as often as we like.

The last time that we played outdoor croquet [http://www.playcroquet.com] in my backyard, during our barbecue, hardly anyone in my family had played it before, so I got to teach them all how to play. It is always fun when it is someone’s first time, especially when they learn the rule of roquet or of placing your foot on your ball, next to another player’s ball, to hit their ball far out of play.

During our first game, the lawn was not mowed, so it made the game a little more interesting. It was harder to aim and set the correct distance for your shot, so it made it more difficult for the experienced players to get an easy win. My brothers and sisters were able to keep up with me or at least keep pretty close throughout the game, although, I had not played for years myself. My sister just younger than me even pulled ahead of me near the end. I thought she might even beat me. My brothers and sisters thought it was fun to roquet or hit my ball, since I was the experienced player. Everyone always gangs up on the leading player in any game, it seems like.

My sister missed the wickets at the end and passed them, so it gave me the opportunity to pull ahead hit the final stick and become poison. I stayed close by my sister just younger than me for a while, threatening to kill her ball with my poison ball, to stop her, but also to give the other member of my family the chance to catch up and feel like they had a chance to win before I crushed them. Finally, I finished my sister off, and subsequently defeated all of the others. Even though none of them had ever played before, I still felt a sense of pride from defeating them.

We mowed the game for the second game, and this time everyone knew how to play and understood the rules, so I did not have to play that time. So it was a little better. I recommend playing on a nice cut lawn. It is more fun to be able to hit your ball a further distance without hitting it hard. The second game was probably a little more fun for everyone once they knew the rules. We did not have to stop and explain things to anyone either, so it flowed a little quicker and more smoothly.

Baby Gear and Baby Furniture Facts

Walking into that baby superstore or going online and deciding on baby furniture for your new baby can be a very overwhelming experience! The first time I walked into the local baby store I turned right around and went back home. It's hard to view the pages and pages or isles and isles of gear all in different prices and options and know just what you're going to need! Below you'll find a list of the top 15 baby furniture and baby gear items you will need and a description of each and ways you can use them.

Convertible Crib

We all know what a crib is, but while shopping for one you're going to quickly recognize that it's not as simple and just walking in and buying the first one you like! The convertible crib is definitely one of the most popular types of baby beds today. And no, that doesn't mean it has a removable top! Convertible cribs convert into other forms of beds like toddler beds, day beds, twin beds, and even full size beds, so it will stay a bed your child can use through a lifetime. Each convertible crib is different, so be sure to check to see how many ways it can convert and find out if you need to purchase a conversion kit to make the transformation. If extra parts are needed, I'd recommend getting them at the same time you buy the crib.

Changing Table

When I had my first baby I scoffed at getting a changing table in the beginning. Then once she came I immediately ran out and bought one! A changing table can come in many different forms, but the top is always designed to keep your baby secure and safe during clothes or diaper changes. These tables also come with shelves or drawers for storing all your baby's diapering essentials. A changing table in the nursery will simply make a parents life easier.

Diaper Stacker

This is another baby product I ignored, but then realized I definitely needed soon after my baby arrived. A diaper stacker is a decorative way to keep diapers handy during every change. A stacker can store up to 4 dozen newborn diapers and keep them right within arm's reach of your changer. Who wants to see diapers out in the open or a big diaper box on a shelf, a diaper stacker keeps them hidden out of sight while adding beautiful design to the nursery.

Diaper Pail

Parenthood comes with lots of surprises. Your sweet little angel's diapers are way stinkier than you can imagine! Diaper pails are specially designed to keep smells contained in their unit. Simply throw the dirty diaper in the pail and it's enclosed in a bag until you fill up the pail and take all of that day's dirty diapers out to the trash.

Play yard

This is a wonderful piece of baby furniture I used constantly with both my children. It starts as a great baby bed for your new born if you don't want to co-sleep, but you want her close. I had my play yard right next to my bed for the first month, so my daughter was right there when she woke up. Many come with changers that attach onto the top, so you have everything you need right at hand. When you travel it folds right up and can go on a plane or car wherever you need it. You can buy a net to go over the top and take it outside with toys and your little one can play outdoors without the worry of bees or mosquitoes biting her. This is a must-have type of baby furniture. No family should live without one of these!

Bouncer

You're going to have a ball picking out which bouncer you think your baby will love most! A Bouncer is a comfy, small seat that will keep your baby safe and entertained. Do you want a rocker, shaker, lights, music, seat that hangs from the doorway or all of the above? You can get a bouncer with a canopy, some have adapters for iPods and some lock into place and then lay flat for naptimes. These handy items are great to have around and are very moderately priced.

Sling

I literally used my sling every day. A sling is a baby carrier that you wrap around your body, keeping baby close and suspended on your front. This will come in handy in so many ways, when you have cleaning to do, when shopping and you need your hands free or when you're carrying things. Your baby will love cuddling up close to you and you'll love the convenience.

Travel System

It's wonderful that the baby furniture and gear market made it easier to shop for the must-have items. The travel system is the infant car seat and stroller together and constructed to attach onto each other. You have your car seat base that attaches in the car and never comes out. The infant seat locks into the base for car rides, then unlocks and attaches onto the stroller once you reach your destination. They are even making diaper bags to add, so your whole travel Grouping matches!

Conversion Kits

I mentioned the kit before, but wanted to give you some more info. When you decide what convertible crib you want to buy, most times there are kits that go with it to help you complete the transformation. Some are toddler rails for added security; others are bed rails for a full size or twin bed. Just be sure to read carefully what you need when you get the crib, so you can have it on hand when the time is right.

Convertible Car Seat

Once your child reaches about 30 pounds, she will be ready to graduate from the infant car seat to the convertible car seat. This car seat faces the rear in the beginning, then later on faces the front at a more upright position. Infants are safer at an incline, but as they grow it is much more comfortable and safer for them to be upright in the normal sitting position. This type of car seat comes with a 5-point harness and can support a child up to 65lbs, depending on the model.

Booster Car Seat

After the convertible car seat, your child still isn't quite ready to sit in the car's seat. The seat belt is attached way too high up and is very uncomfortable unless she is boosted up some. The booster car seat puts her in the perfect position for the seat belt and also for back seat airbags. Some states require a child to be in the booster seat until age 5, 6 or even 7 years of age. When traveling, always check the laws in each state you are driving through.

Receiving blanket

It is easy to get confused about the difference between a baby blanket and a receiving blanket. The receiving blanket is the perfect item for a newborn during sleep time. You use it to swaddle your baby, so she will feel more secure in the crib and in your arms. It simulates the warm and close surroundings of the womb. You'll be amazed at how long a baby will sleep when swaddled just right!

Co-Sleeper

Many parents love the idea of having their baby sleep with them in bed. It's decidedly easier to have them right within arm's reach when they wake up crying. Unfortunately many studies have come out that baby's who sleep in bed with mom and dad have a much higher risk of SIDS than if they have their own space to avert suffocation risks. Co-sleepers either attach onto your bed or scoot right up to it, keeping baby close yet safe. For moms who had a c-section, the co-sleeper is a wonderful idea, making reaching for baby a much easier task.

Moses Basket

Who doesn't just love the idea of having your baby all cuddled up in a little basket? Moses baskets are literally baskets with small mattresses and cute accent beddings and blankets for your little one to nap in. They love the coziness of being in a small compartment to sleep in (just like mommy's womb) and parents love the ease of carrying her from room to room, and the novelty of how incredibly cute Baby looks when sleeping in a basket!

Glider

Gliders are similar to rocking chairs except they move with a much more natural glide motion because of a specialized gliding system underneath. You can even buy the coordinated ottoman that glides along with your glider. New moms love these cushy items almost as much as their babies do! This is one type of baby furniture you can use way past the baby stage!

Airsoft Legalities in the US - Know the Soft Air Gun Laws Before You Play!

There are many legalities related to playing Airsoft in the United States. For those of you who may not know what Airsoft is, I'll be more than happy to provide a brief explanation of it for you. Airsoft is a game in which players defeat their opponents by firing non-metallic pellets at them from a compressed air gun. These air guns are powered by one of three ways, which are manual spring-load, electrically powered gearbox or gas.

In the United States, there typically is no minimum age requirement for playing Airsoft. This is because Airsoft guns are not considered firearms here and are therefore considered legal for all ages. However, common sense needs to prevail here. I think it's obvious to most that you probably wouldn't want a young child such as a toddler playing with an Airsoft gun. This is because although not nearly as dangerous as a regular firearm, Airsoft guns can still potentially cause some serious injuries if not handled properly.

The individual laws actually vary from state to state, so before purchasing an air gun for your child or letting them use one, you'll want to do a little research on your state's laws. For example, in Minnesota, it's considered illegal for any child under the age of 14 to be in possession of an Airsoft gun unless they're being supervised by a parent or other adult. Also, it's illegal for any child under the age of 18 in Minnesota to purchase an Airsoft gun without first obtaining their parents permission.

In California, only adults are allowed to buy Airsoft guns. Children in California are only permitted to use Airsoft guns if they've first acquired their parents' permission. If you're the parent of a child who wants to use an Airsoft gun, there is one major factor that you'll want to take into consideration.

Airsoft guns are often very detailed and realistic looking and have many times been mistaken for the real thing by members of law enforcement. Therefore, if you do decide to let your child use an Airsoft gun, never, ever let them use it in public, as it's possible that a police officer might think the gun is a real firearm and consequently shoot them. Also, to help differentiate an Airsoft gun from a regular firearms weapons, most states require the Airsoft guns to have a bright orange tip on them.

One tragic example of a child not taking this requirement seriously occurred in Longwood, Florida back in 2006. A student brought his air gun to school and since he had previously painted over the orange tip, a sheriff's deputy assumed that his air gun was a "real" gun. The student had been threatening the other kids with it. Fearing for his life as well as the lives of all the teachers and students there, he shot the student, and the student subsequently died.

So, please make sure that your child understands the importance of having a highly visible 6 mm orange tip on their Airsoft gun. The possession of Airsoft guns in United States schools is simply not tolerated. Depending on the nature of the offense, the most common punishments for kids having Airsoft guns at school is either a temporary suspension, or in some cases the child may be permanently expelled from that school..

Next, let's discuss what type of Airsoft safety equipment is required to play soft air games in the U.S. So far there isn't any safety equipment that's legally required in order to play Airsoft in this United States. However, eye injuries with this sport could potentially be very severe. Therefore, safety goggles are an absolute must have! Also, some people have been known to receive injuries such as a chipped tooth from getting a direct hit to the mouth. Therefore, many people like to use face masks which cover your face and mouth while playing Airsoft.

Some models even have the goggles and face mask combined which are especially nice as they offer thorough all-in-one protection. Airsoft tactical vests help protect the body from getting hit directly by an Airsoft BB. Also, they often have pockets that allow you to carry extra guns, BB's and anything else you might need. Helmets are also great to have as they of course, help protect your head from receiving any direct injuries.

Plus, helmets can make the game even more fun by making it seem more realistic. As far as your regular clothing goes, you'll want to be sure to wear long pants and long sleeved shirts since they both offer full coverage. Full coverage clothing will help to minimize the impact of getting hit by BB's.

As far as where to play, U.S. regulations require Airsoft to be played on private property only. A large yard could work well. However, should you decide to play Airsoft in your backyard, be sure to notify your neighbors in advance. This way they'll know what to expect and you won't inadvertently frighten them.

Another choice for outdoor play is one of the many specially designed Airsoft fields. Just do a quick search online, and you will most likely be able to find one in your area. There are also indoor facilities across the U.S. that will allow you to play Airsoft. This is great because it allows you to play Airsoft, even during inclement weather. Due to insurance regulations, all indoor Airsoft facilities require the use of a full face mask. This is because they want to make sure they're protected in the event you end up getting some sort of facial injury.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article, and I hope you've found it to be both interesting and informative. I hope you have a great time playing Airsoft! And as always, please be sure to put safety and the law first.

Youth Football the Texas Tech Mike Leach Way

Many of you probably watched that incredible Texas Tech-Texas game Saturday evening like I did. The sheer entertainment value of the game alone was worth the time investment, with Michael Crabtree scoring the winning touchdown on a thrilling play with just 1 second left on the clock. Mike Leach is a story unto itself, definitely a man that follows the beat of a different drummer. On the Texas side of the ball, athletes abound and Mack Brown is a true gentleman, a modern statesman of the game.

The Youth Football Lesson in This

As youth football coaches what can we learn from Coach Leach? First let's look for a moment at Coach Leach's background. With the exception of one year of sitting on the bench of his High School football team as a Junior, he never played organized football. He got his Bachelors at BYU and then his Law Degree from Pepperdine. At age 25, married, with his second child on the way he decides he wants to be a College Football coach. Yeah right, After stops at College of the Desert, Cal Poly, Iowa Wesleyan, Valdosta State, Finland and Kentucky he is now the head coach of Texas Tech, Not bad for a self described "Christian with serious obedience issues". He seems to look at things from a slightly different perspective, maybe even a sort of an "outsiders" viewpoint.

He has amassed a 74-37 record at a school that rarely, no let's rephrase that, never gets the top tier or even second tier talent in the state of Texas. Those players are reserved for Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Those kids go to the big money, big stadium, big tradition schools, not to Texas Tech and it's tiny 57.000 seat stadium with a masked pirate Zorro mascot. Just getting to Lubbock is a major undertaking, like something out of one of those "Dead Zone" commercials, the place none of the Big 12 Media crews relish going.

Leach does it with quarterbacks no one else wants, 6 foot kids with offers to just Tech and maybe a mid major school. He has started a number of quarterbacks for just one season, many being fifth year seniors like BJ Symons, who passed for 52 touchdowns in his only year as a starter. The following season Symons was replaced by another fifth year senior, Sonny Cumbie, who passed for 4.742 yards, the sixth best in NCAA history. This season Cody Hodges a fifth year senior with four years of bench sitting experience is leading Tech's quest for it's first ever Big 12 Title and even a shot at the National Championship.

Now what does this all mean to us youth football coaches?

The Leach Formula

Mike Leach saw when he came to Texas Tech, that there was no way he would ever be able to match up with Texas, Oklahoma, A&M and the big boys by doing more of what they were doing. He was always going to have to settle for the second and third tier players. He focused on bringing in fast, smart kids that were maybe a bit undersized or odd shaped, kids that maybe didn't look like football players. Certainly former bag of bones quarterback Kliff Kingsbury fit that mold. He looked like he would need weights in his shoes to hold him down when the stiff winds of West Texas blew around Lubbock. Listed at 175 pounds, this weight number was about as accurate as the weight listed on a 45 year old woman's drivers license. Tech running back Taurean Henderson looked more like a skinny Munchkin from the Wizard of Oz with really bad hair than a Big 12 Running Back.

How do you win with talent like this? I'm sure that is what Leach asked himself 10 years ago when he started at Tech,

This is What He Did:

He widened the offensive line splits, so his diminutive quarterbacks would have lanes they could see and throw through as well as to make the edges so far outside that his quarterbacks would have more time against the incredible athleticism many Big 12 Defensive Ends have. Over the course of a game those long pass rushes tire out these monstrous defensive ends so by the fourth quarter his quarterbacks have all day to throw. The offensive line splits vary dramatically from 3 to 9 feet. This also gave his smaller offensive linemen nice angles for those big defensive linemen aligned in the gaps.

He committed to passing the ball first, with most seasons averaging over 55 throws per game.

He committed to throwing the ball with just a few concepts, All Curl, 4 Verticals, Y-Stick, Shallow, Bubble Screens and Mesh, The laminated play card for his quarterback had just 26 offensive plays on it for the Texas Game. Coach Leach does NOT have a huge play card filled with hundreds of plays and down and distance material, he has a simple piece of non laminated paper usually folded up into fourths, like some kind of crumpled up crib sheet, with about 30 plays on it. If a play works he writes an O next to it and runs it again, if it fails he writes an X next to it and doesn't . In the Texas game, All Curl must have had an O next to it because he threw it least 5 times.

He committed to running those few concepts out of many formations and looks. So while Leach may be called the "Mad Scientist", his playbook is relatively simple. Those TV pundits have no clue.

Why does it work?

How and why does it work? The precision of his receiver's routes are second to none. Watch them sometimes, you will not see anything like it anywhere. The timing, the execution in uncanny. There is nothing revolutionary about these football plays, it is the execution that is flawless and revolutionary. The pass protection is equally as flawless, the Tech quarterback has been sacked just twice so far this season.

The Youth Football Equivalent

As a youth football coach we have to look at what we have to work with and how that compares to our competition. Can we afford to run what everyone else is in the league is running and expect the kids to have success? Should we run the exact same football plays and formations as our bigger and faster competition and expect to compete? Or do we have to be creative and run something different? Tech decided to run something different.

Do we need 40-50-60 plays in our playbook? Tech did it on Saturday with 26 football plays and Tech gets to practice 6 days a week nearly year round. They are masters of a few concepts run out of multiple formations.

Do We Throw in Our Chips With Leach?

When coaching youth football does this mean you should commit to throwing the ball 60 times a game and widening your splits to 6-9 feet with your football team? No, not at all. In youth football, we don't get to practice 6 days a week nearly year round or cut anyone (most teams), Texas Tech doesn't have to worry about getting every player into the game regardless of game circumstances or have squad sizes of 25 instead of 150. Your kids aren't going to be able to widen splits out to 9 feet, when you are starting an nonathletic future computer nerd at one offensive line spot and the future tuba player of the marching band at another. Those kind of kids can't fill a 2 foot gap let alone a 6-9 foot gap. Most youth football teams aren't going to have 2-3 good well trained backup quarterbacks waiting in the wings for when the starter gets hurt or is sick. Even your best quarterback attending every QB camp known to man isn't going to throw to a streaking wideout and hit him with pinpoint accuracy on the outside tip of his sideline shoulder on a 25 yard sideline streak route like Tech consistently does ( impossible to defend). But what we youth football coaches can learn from Leach is to compete, you don't have the biggest and most athletic team in your league, but you have to be different. You don't have to have 60 football plays in your playbook, but what you do need are complementary plays that you execute to absolute perfection. That's why my teams run the Single Wing offense and why we have a limited number of 100% complementary play series we perfect every season.

Tech still has a tough row to hoe with Oklahoma State up next, but they are always fun to watch. Heck if Tech hadn't converted on a 4th and 6 from their own 35 against Nebraska 2 weeks ago in a narrow win, we may not even be having this conversation. But Mike Leach thinks 4th and 6 is a makeable down even from his own 35. When his "no play" failed, Crabtree delivered with a "broken play" 65 yard TD catch, which was the difference maker in the game. Mike Leach is an enigma.

How Will You Prepare the Baby Bed and Bedding?

One of the top priorities that every parent should consider is the bedding of their baby because of two major reasons: comfort and safety!

For parents who prefer to have a separate room for their baby, they definitely need to plan for the nursery including of course the bedding for their newborn. It is a precaution to have a safety and comfortable bed and bedding for infants that is why it is there's no room for compromises when it comes to selecting a baby bedding.

Usually, selecting a baby bedding set involves choosing a color and a pattern, as well as consider other cost like the maintenance and how it is easy to use. Solar Security Lights For Your Basketball Court

If you are a proud homeowner and you love to play sports then you might be happy to have some solar security lights in your yard. If you have a basketball court or a small soccer field don't let night time stop you from having a good game with a few buddies. Solar security lights are extremely bright and should provide very good visibility. If you put up a number of them in the right places then you should be able to see as far as the end of a game court.

If you own a large yard you might want the extra protection that these lights can also provide at night. It's a good feeling to have if you can see your whole property whenever you open your window at any time of the night. Good lighting will make your home more intimidating to intruders.

Solar security lights will not be decorative because that isn't what they were designed for. If you are looking for decorative solar lights then there are many other options. The other options will give you a beautiful view but will not be as strong nor as bright as security lights.

If you seriously want to take advantage of lights outside then you should just stick with the security solar lights. It can be great to play a whole game and not be distracted by the darkness. As long as you are able to see the players, the ball, and the basket you will enjoy it just as well as during the daytime.

You get any type of solar light for your home. Solar lights can offer protection and visibility.

How to Make Your Yard a Kid Friendly Place

The first priority for a child friendly garden must be fencing or walling to separate your garden from the street. Parents who are buying a property as a starter home for the new or intended family, should consider purchasing a property where the play area is behind the home, thus preventing visitors invited or uninvited from entering the property and walking through the designated play area.

Once your garden is securely fenced or walled in, you need to look at what you plant to ensure a kid-friendly play environment. Many common garden plants are toxic in small or large doses. New parents should be aware of the fact that their toddlers will be "tasting" the world and garden - grass, sand, stones and leaves will find their way into your toddler's mouth; often before you can stop it from happening. A garden with a large non-toxic tree or two to provide shady spots in which to play in the hot summer months is ideal.

If the property you purchase does not already have established trees, it would be wise to visit your local nursery and purchase fast-growing, non-toxic indigenous trees. It would be wise to avoid trees which shed seed pods containing small seeds which your child may place in his mouth and cause him to choke. While you wait for your trees to grow, alternative shade must be offered. Large umbrellas work well as do pergolas covered in shade cloth.

Older children will often spend time in the garden making mud pies and potions with leaves, sand and water. This kind of play must not be discouraged; but you do need to make sure that there are no poisonous plants, shrubs, berries or seeds available to add to the mixtures. Avoid the shade loving Arum lilies, the deadly Syringas, the fatal Oleanders and the toxic Moonflowers. Do your homework and Google your plants of choice, to ensure you do not introduce any dangerous plants into your garden. If your garden is an established one when you purchase the property; identify all the plants contained therein and make sure they are kid-safe.

It is always a good idea to fill in gaps in your planting areas with fast-growing fragrant herbs like Lavender and Rosemary. Use edible plants like Nasturtiums and oregano as your ground covers. Peppermint, mint and Penny-royal work well in damp areas and create a lovely fresh smell when brushed against or trampled.

If you plan to have pets as part of the family, you need to ensure that these pets do not create a danger or health hazard in your kid-friendly garden. Animal feces need to be removed daily and before your child goes out to play. This is an easy task when your household pet is a dog; but a different matter when you keep cats in the home. It would be wise to train your cat from when it is a kitten to use a sand tray with gel, odor absorbing litter. This sandbox must be inaccessible to your toddler or child. This practice will hopefully minimize the use of sandy garden beds as toilet facilities for your cat.

If you keep cats and are going to provide a sandpit for play purposes, it is vital that the sandpit is kept covered or it will become your cat's toilet. All household pets must be de-wormed at least twice a year. It is wise to de-worm the whole family - human and animal at the same time to prevent cross-transfer of any health hazards created by common intestinal worms such as tapeworm and roundworm.

A kid-friendly garden should include some play equipment such as a swing and a sand play and water play area. It is safest to use a small inflatable swimming pool and water table on hot days for water play. A toddler can drown in the equivalent of a bucket of water and therefore, established garden ponds should be emptied of water until your children are older and able to swim. Swimming pools are extremely hazardous and need to be securely fenced off with a locked entry gate that cannot be opened by your child.

A kid-friendly garden affords safe opportunities for outdoor play, grass to run on, non-toxic flowers to pick, a sand play area and a water source for water play supervised by a parent or caregiver. Wise parents will enthusiastically influence their children to respect the garden as a source of beauty and food. Plant small lettuces, fresh peas and similar easy to grow vegetables among your decorative plants and enjoy God's provision with your child when you play outdoors.

Picnic Tables Are A Great Addition To Your Yard

I'm not sure what you think, but I've always thought that a wooden picnic table was really classy. I can't recall when we bought our first wooden table, but it was when I was a young child. My father even built our picnic tables himself and was so excited when we got it. We used it in the yard during the summers and I have many great memories of eating off this picnic table in the summer time. I remember seeing a young ladybug crawl on our table and being totally mesmerized as a child by this site. So many great memories were made around our wooden picnic table during my formative years.
The one I'll never forget was the ladybug crawling slowly across that table. It could have been traveling for hours in ladybug time!

We used to eat lunch in the backyard on the picnic table all the time. My mom would bring out bread, cold cuts, and home made coleslaw that was delicious. I want some right now just thinking about it! She would put everything on the table and we would feast on our table. I would love to just play with my friends or siblings after each meal and could spent hour after hour in the backyard doing those years. I could just lie on the grass and look at the clouds and then go back for seconds. My dad and I would play ball in the yard too.

Sometimes I remember these days and want my very own wooden picnic table. It is harder than it seems to find a great wooden picnic table. Any table might look like the other from the outside, but in reality they are not all the same. You can tell the difference from one to another if you've used any of them. You need to get a really big one that is reliable and durable to be satisfied in the long run with your picnic table. It needs to look good too. It should also be sturdy. You want to choose something that will really add to your home and yard. Try to find one that is reinforced with concrete or steel to get something that will really last a lifetime.

Great Yard Sale Ideas For Success

There are several yard sale ideas that will help you make the most you can from selling your stuff. Advertising, setting bargain prices and creating a fun and lively atmosphere are among the top ways to maximize your profit. The key is to plan ahead, create a layout for your tables, price items to sell and be ready to sell your items with enthusiasm.

Creativity is one of the best yard sale ideas. Create an environment for your visitors to encourage them to buy. You might like to serve up refreshments or play appropriate mood music. Another idea is to select a certain item and feature hourly price drops, as this can have the effect of encouraging people to stay around and browse.

The creation of an area that allows effective traffic flow is an important yard sale idea. Look at the center of your yard and see how you could create a sale that allows your buyers to maneuver easily between items. Use shelves, clothes racks and folding tables and set out your items according to different themes and selections. Have a furniture nook, clothing area, kitchen area, music and book area and don't be afraid to expand into your driveway if you run out of space.

Yard sale ideas can extend to the entire street or neighborhood. Make it a mega block party sale and encourage your neighbors to put out a table. A big sale will attract a lot more buyers. If everyone contributes a certain amount of money, you could increase your advertising avenues and reach more potential buyers.

There are some yard sale ideas that have had much success, but they all depend on how well the event is advertised. You don't have to spend a lot of money on advertising. Use online resources, your daily and weekly newspapers and bulletin boards in your community. You could pass out flyers, call people you know and ask them to spread the word and email your contacts. You should also put up signs prior to and the day of the sale that give visible directions to your address.

Effective yard sale ideas are those that attract interest. Your ads should include certain items or special price points that will encourage people to attend. Your tables or displays shouldn't be overflowing with items that make it cluttered and difficult to see what you are offering.

Use balloons or flags to create a festive atmosphere as this is one of the great yard sale ideas you can use to create attention. Maybe you would like to place bold arrows at nearby roadways and also place interesting pieces towards the front of your display, thereby attracting the attention of those who are driving by, causing them to stop and investigate more.

Yard sale ideas that offer conveniences for shoppers can help boost sales. Consider a play area where young children can go while their parents shop. The hours of your sale should be accommodating and preferably start early in the morning. Be prepared to negotiate on price and provide bags for multiple purchases.
