Take a Bahamas Golf Vacation and Play on Two Championship Courses

If golf is what you are dreaming about these days then why not go all out? Why not try a Bahamas golf vacation? At the Our Lucaya Reef Village, the premier Bahamas golf resort in Freeport, Grand Bahamas Island, you will find two championship courses from which to choose, the renowned Reef Course and the legendary Lucayan Course.

The Reef Course was designed by master golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. The Reef is considered to be one of the finest courses in the Caribbean. Jones actually described the Reef as "a lot like Scotland only warmer". The Reef features 6,930 yards of sprawling greens, rolling plateaus, and an assortment of treacherous bunkers, lakes and tall grasses, with three set of tees for every skill level. Although the fairways are wide and open, the Caribbean climate and its warm breezy can make each shot a bit challenging. The large open greens are fast and very unpredictable.

The toughest hole on the course is hole #2 and the easiest is #14. The Reef is a par 72 course that was built in 2000. You will find water features on 13 of the 18 holes. You need to play this course with patience and precision to avoid losing your ball in the numerous lakes. The Reef is a contemporary links-style course that requires a different golfing approach than the Lucayan.

The premier course at the Our Lucaya Reef Village is The Lucayan Course. The Lucayan was the first golf course built on the Grand Bahamas Island. The course was originally designed 1962, but after the Hurricane Jeanne in 2004 it required a makeover. The Lucayan is ranked among the top 100 courses in the world and has become one of the Bahamas' most celebrated courses.

The Lucayan offers golfers 6,824 yards of challenging play with three varied sets of tees. The course is a par 72, with hole #4 as most difficult and #12 as the easiest. The course offers tight doglegs and elevated greens that are protected by well placed sand bunkers. With the intense tropical foliage, you will find this course to be every bit as beautiful as it is challenging.

Golfers often describe The Lucayan to be a uniquely private experience. The course was designed in such a way that you can see only the hole that you are currently playing, while keeping all the other holes out of sight. The decades of evolution and care have made the Lucayan a golf attraction for thousands of professional and amateur golfers from all over the world. Both of these courses have hosted the PGA's Bahamas National Open, the Senior PGA's Slam and 12 other national championships. Guests of the Our Lucaya Reef Village and Our Lucaya Radisson will get preferred tee times. The Our Lucayan provides complimentary transportation to and from both courses. The Pro Shop, located at both courses can provide all the equipment you will need. Prices will vary from season to season, day or twilight, and 9 to 18 holes of play.
